N2K wiring

FYI - I plan to tie both N2K and 0183 to the DMK box.

Per the reference section of DMK site, the cable pinout for N2K is Purple/Gray for the N2K H/L, respectively. Is this color convention consistent on the N2k side? IE as I splice into the N2K, can I expect to wire Purple-Purple and Gray-Gray? Do I need to connect ground and can I use either Wht or Blk ground listed?

Likewise for N0183, DMK has Orange, Yellow for In/Out for Port A. Can I tie the grounds together and use either wht or blk wires from the DMK?

thanks for clearing this up for me. Let me know if this is already documented and I'm just missing it.

    Hello Pete,

    Great question. The DMK and N2K wiring colors are not consistent. The N2K wiring code is as follows:

    Red = Power Positive
    Black = Power Negative
    Screen = Ground Screen
    Blue = CAN low
    White = CAN High

    DMK's wiring is as follows:
    Brown = Power Positive
    White and Black = Ground
    Purple = CAN High
    Grey = CAN Low

    You can choose to power the DMK Box from the NMEA 2000 bus or just choose to connect the CAN High and Low wires to get the info. Either one should work. Connecting the N2K and other protocols at the same time is just fine. It should all work well. Good Luck - Kevin
